Meta has admitted that it used public posts on the Facebook and Instagram platforms to train its new artificial intelligence virtual assistant. Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, said the company used only public posts and excluded all private posts and private messages shared with friends and family to train the company's AI bot. The UK has called on Meta not to introduce end-to-end encryption to Instagram and Facebook Messenger without safeguards to protect children from sexual abuse, after the online safety bill was passed by parliament. Meta, which already encrypts messages in WhatsApp, plans to bring end-to-end encryption to Messenger and Instagram direct messages, calling the technology a safety and security enhancement. UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she supports strong encryption for online users, but not at the expense of children's safety.
