US tech giant Microsoft has agreed to invest $1.5 billion in a state-owned AI company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a bid to compete with China in the artificial intelligence space. Microsoft will invest $1.5 billion in G42 to support the development and research of artificial intelligence technology. G42 is considered a major AI player in the Middle East, having been involved in the development of the Arabic version of the LLM, Jais. The investment and agreement is expected to strengthen the strategic partnership between the United States and the UAE and contribute to the expansion of U.S. influence in the Gulf region.
