A U.S. court has ordered Google to open its Android app market, the Play Store, to competitors. This is the result of an antitrust lawsuit filed by Epic Games. Judge James Donato issued a permanent injunction requiring Google to open the Play Store to competitors for three years and allow Android apps to be available in alternative stores. Consequently, Google must allow third-party app stores access to the Play Store library and enable the download of alternative app stores from the Play Store. Additionally, Google can no longer force developers to use its own payment system, nor can it prevent them from informing users about cheaper payment options. Google has stated its intention to appeal this ruling. The company emphasized that Android is an open platform and that developers have had various options for app distribution.
