Microsoft is developing its own large-scale artificial intelligence model to compete with Google and OpenAI, according to U.S. business publication The Information. The model is codenamed “MAI-1” and is being led by former Google AI head Mustafa Suleyman. Suleyman is considered a prominent figure in artificial intelligence as the co-founder of DeepMind and Inflection. Microsoft hired Suleyman and acquired Inflection in March. Inflection's technology and data will be utilized in the development of MAI-1. MAI-1 is said to have 500 billion parameters, which is much larger than open-source models. It will also reportedly be an expensive model due to the massive amount of computing power and training data required.
