Elon Musk told investors that his startup xAI plans to build a supercomputer by fall 2025. The supercomputer will be built using tens of thousands of NVIDIA H100 GPUs in what he calls a “gigafactory of compute” and is estimated to cost billions of dollars. Musk has previously said that the third version of Grok will require at least 100,000 chips, a five-fold increase from the 20,000 GPUs that were reportedly used to train the 2.0 version. Musk reportedly told investors that the GPU cluster will be at least four times larger than what xAI competitors currently use, according to a report by The Information. Grog, which is currently at version 1.5, has been enhanced to handle not only text but also visual information such as photos and diagrams. Earlier this month, X began rolling out AI news summaries powered by Grog for premium users. The supercomputer is expected to significantly improve the performance of the Grog chatbot. Grog will be able to provide more accurate, informative, and natural conversations.
