Qualcomm has unveiled its new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, introducing custom CPU core development, significant GPU upgrades, and advanced AI and imaging capabilities. The Snapdragon 8 Elite’s standout feature is its custom Oryon CPU, which replaces the previous Arm Cortex-based designs, boasting two Prime cores and six Performance cores, with clock speeds up to 4.32GHz. Qualcomm promises a 45% increase in CPU performance and improved efficiency due to its 3nm manufacturing process. The revamped Adreno GPU offers a 40% boost in performance, along with enhanced ray tracing, extended gaming time, and more efficient power use. The processor’s AI capabilities have also been expanded, featuring a faster NPU and AI-enhanced imaging processing, allowing real-time 4K/60fps enhancements and video object removal. The Snapdragon 8 Elite will power upcoming flagship devices from brands like Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, with some products launching by the end of 2023.
