A U.S. court has approved the creditor repayment plan for the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX. As a result, FTX customers are expected to receive up to $16.5 billion in refunds. FTX stated that customers would be able to recover approximately 119% of the amount in their accounts at the time of bankruptcy. Creditors are expected to receive funds within 60 days after the plan takes effect. This agreement is expected to put an end to the crisis that began with FTX's bankruptcy in November 2022. At that time, millions of customers worldwide were unable to access their accounts, and approximately $8 billion in customer funds were reported missing. John J Ray III, the current CEO of FTX, described the approval of this plan as a "significant milestone" in efforts to repay customer funds. However, some customers are arguing that cash repayments may not be sufficient considering the increase in cryptocurrency values. Meanwhile, FTX's former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has been found guilty of embezzling customer funds and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
