The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a safety recall for more than 27,000 Porsche electric vehicles. This recall is due to the risk of short-circuiting in the battery cell block module and affects over 27,000 Taycan electric vehicles released between 2021 and 2024. Unable to pinpoint exactly which vehicles have the issue, Porsche has advised all Taycan owners with vehicles manufactured between October 21, 2019, and February 1, 2024, to visit a dealership. At the dealership, the battery will be inspected using diagnostic software. For safety reasons, Porsche has recommended Taycan owners to charge their batteries only up to 80% and plans to send official notifications to owners by the end of November. This situation is reminiscent of the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt recall due to battery fire risks. At that time, Chevrolet had to replace batteries at a cost of $1.8 billion, ultimately leading to the discontinuation of their electric vehicle line. Porsche's proactive measure appears to be aimed at preventing large-scale losses similar to those experienced with the Chevrolet Bolt.
