In his closing statement, Bankman-Fried admitted his guilt, saying that it was "horrible to watch" and that he was "sorry for what happened at every step of the way." However, Bankman-Fried is expected to appeal the verdict. His defense team had reportedly asked for a sentence of five to 6.5 years, citing his "philanthropic work and dedication to helping others." They also suggested a lighter sentence based on a January bankruptcy court hearing that found clients and creditors would get their money back.
