Cisco Systems has announced the launch of a new fund totaling $1 billion to accelerate the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. “Cisco's new fund is aimed at investing in AI technology startups to help develop innovative technologies and accelerate the adoption of AI across industries,” Reuters reported on Thursday. Cisco's first investment from the fund is in a startup developing natural language processing (NLP) technology. The company has already invested nearly $200 million in AI-related startups, including Coherent, MistralAI, and ScaleAI. In particular, AI data labeling startup Scale AI is valued at $14 billion (KRW 19.3 trillion), and so-called AI-based model (foundation model) developers Coherent and Mistral AI are reportedly in talks with investors to raise funds at a valuation of $5 billion (KRW 6.9 trillion) each.

시스코 시스템즈가 인공지능(AI) 기술의 발전을 촉진하기 위해 총 10억 달러 규모의 새로운 펀드를 조성했다고 발표했다. 로이터통신은 4일(현지시간) "시스코의 이번 펀드는 AI 기술 스타트업에 투자를 집행하여 혁신적인 기술 개발을 돕고, 산업 전반의 AI 적용을 가속화하는 데 목적을 두고 있다"고 전했다. 시스코는 이번 펀드로부터의 첫 투자로, 자연어 처리(NLP) 기술을 개발하는 신생 기업에 투자를 단행했다. 또한 코히어, 미스트랄AI, 스케일AI 등 AI 관련 스타트업에 이미 약 2억 달러(약 2천800억 원)를 투자한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 AI 데이터 라벨링 스타트업 스케일AI는 기업가치가 140억 달러(약 19조3천억 원)에 달하며, 이른바 AI 기반 모델(파운데이션 모델) 개발사인 코히어와 미스트랄AI는 각각 50억 달러(약 6조9천억 원)의 가치를 인정받아 투자자들과 자금조달을 위한 협의를 진행 중인 것으로 전해졌다.
