Paris-based artificial intelligence startup Mistral AI has raised another round of capital. Mistral recently closed its Series B funding round, raising approximately €600 million ($640 million) in a mix of equity and debt, the company said. The round was led by General Catalyst. This brings the startup's valuation to $6 billion, according to the company. Currently, Mistral AI is developing a base model that can compete with top performers like OpenAI's GPT-4o, Anthropic's Claude 3, and Meta's Llama 3. Mistral AI has also released models pre-trained and fine-tuned using OpenWeights under an open source license. One of Mistral AI's most advanced models, Mistral Large, is a proprietary model designed to be repackaged as an API-first product. “We are thrilled to see our existing investors, as well as new ones, reaffirm their confidence in our business and provide new support for our expansion,” said Arthur Mensch, Co-Founder and CEO,
