Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for her involvement in the collapse of FTX. She was also ordered to forfeit $11 billion. Ellison pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud and five conspiracy charges in December 2022 as part of a cooperation agreement with the government. During the sentencing hearing, Judge Lewis Kaplan remarked, "I've seen a lot of cooperators in 30 years. I've never seen one quite like Ms. Ellison," noting that there were no obvious inconsistencies in her testimony. Ellison served as a key witness in the trial of FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, testifying for three days. Prosecutors stated that Ellison's swift disclosure of the facts enabled them to quickly indict Bankman-Fried. She is in the process of turning over her remaining assets to FTX debtors, and her early cooperation was deemed valuable in recovering assets for the debtors.

Social media platform X has announced changes to its privacy policy that will allow it to provide user data to third parties for AI model training purposes. The policy, set to take effect on November 15, 2024, is expected to pave the way for external companies to purchase X's data in the form of licenses. The new policy introduces a "third-party collaborators" section, but the specific methods for users to opt out of data sharing remain unclear. This move is seen as a potential new revenue stream for X, which has experienced a decline in advertising revenue. Meanwhile, X has also strengthened penalties for 'scraping', the unauthorized collection of large numbers of tweets. The company has decided to impose a fine of $15,000 for accessing more than one million posts per day. X's owner, Elon Musk, has maintained a tough stance on scraping, and this policy change appears to reflect his attitude.
