It declares that unlicensed use of creative works for training AI must not be allowed. Numerous authors, musicians, and actors, including Kazuo Ishiguro, Robert Smith, and Kevin Bacon, have backed the statement. The statement organizer, composer Ed Newton-Rex, criticized AI companies for expecting free access to creators' works. Newton-Rex, a former AI executive, further warned that the UK government's proposed “opt-out” system for content scraping would unfairly burden creators. He also emphasized that an "opt-in" system would be more equitable for protecting creative rights. Several creative industry organizations, including SAG-AFTRA and Universal Music Group, have also signed the statement.
