AI chip and software startup Recogni has announced a new computing method. This technology makes chips smaller, faster, and more cost-effective for training and operating artificial intelligence systems. Recogni is developing specialized chips and software to enable AI inference with support from BMW, Bosch, and venture capital firm Mayfield. The newly released Pareto system leverages a log-based approach to outperform existing methods when processing large AI models. Current AI models require significant power and computation, but Recogni's Pareto converts multiplication operations into additions, significantly reducing power consumption while maintaining accuracy. This technology has already been tested on AI models from Meta Platforms and Stability AI. Recogni is working with an unnamed partner to make Pareto widely available and plans to announce the partnership in the coming months.
