위성 발사업체 버진오르빗, 운영 중단… "임무 실패"

Virgin Orbit, a subsidiary of Virgin Galactic, the low-orbit space travel company founded by Richard Branson of the UK's Virgin Group, has announced that it will cease operations and sell its assets. Virgin Orbit was listed on the NASDAQ through a merger with a SPAC (special purpose acquisition company), but it failed to attract investors and ran into funding difficulties. Eventually, Virgin Orbit was unable to raise the $382 million (approximately KRW 500 billion) it had targeted, leading to bankruptcy. The company said it would sell its assets to three companies, including aerospace manufacturer Rocket Lab and aerospace firm Stratonics.

Facebook parent company MetaPlatform has sold Giphy, a stock image search platform, following a divestiture order from the UK's antitrust authority, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Shutterstock, an online stock image marketplace, announced that it is acquiring Giphy from Meta for $53 million. That's about $315 million less than the $415.8 million that Meta reportedly paid for Giphy in 2020, and the company said it expects to close all acquisition and sale talks within the next month.

월마트가 2017년 인수한 이커머스 아웃도어 소매업체 무스죠(Moosejaw)를 딕스 스포츠용품(Dick's Sporting Goods)에 매각한다고 밝혔다. 최종 3월에 마무리될 것으로 예상되는 이번 거래의 구체적인 매각 조건은 공개되지 않았다. 월마트는 이커머스 서비스를 강화하기 위해 2017년 2월 무스죠를 5,100만 달러에 인수했다. 당시 업계에서는 월마트의 무스죠 인수가 또 다른 의류 진출로의 확장이 아니냐는 의견이 분분했었다. 무스죠를 인수한 이후 월마트는 7천만 개에서 수억 개의 관련 품목으로 폭풍 성장했다.

Walmart is selling e-commerce retailer Moosejaw to Dick's Sporting Goods. The retailer bought the outdoor retailer for $51 million in February 2017. The deal is expected to close in March. Walmart has sold other e-tailer brands in the past, including ModCloth and Bare Necessities.
