Sam Bankman-Fried's trial begins 11 months after FTX's bankruptcy. Experts say he faces a minimum of 100 years in prison if convicted of all charges. Judge Lewis Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York began the process of selecting a 12-member jury today ahead of his six-week trial. He is accused of siphoning billions of dollars in client funds between 2019 and November of last year, using them to pay off debt at FTX affiliate Alameda Research and to buy luxury real estate in the Bahamas. "If convicted of all charges, Bankman-Fried could be sentenced to more than 100 years in prison," CNBC reported.

U.S. prosecutors urged a federal judge on Saturday (Nov. 26) to jail Sam Bankman-Fried for leaking his ex-girlfriend's private diary to the New York Times. Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon told U.S. District Judge Louis Kaplan during a court hearing that the leak, along with Bankman-Fried's previous contact with FTX's legal counsel, amounted to witness tampering.

U.S. federal prosecutors on Friday asked the court to drop five of the 13 charges against Ms. Bankman-Fried, according to local media. The five counts were identified as campaign finance violations, which were added by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York after Bankman-Fried's extradition. Prosecutors requested the five counts be dropped because the Bahamian court indicated that there were procedural problems with the U.S. Attorney's additional charges. Ultimately, the trial on the five additional charges was postponed until next year.

미국 금융당국이 13일(이하 현지시간) 세계 3위 암호화폐 거래소 FTX 파산과 관련해 창업자 샘 뱅크먼-프리드를 사기 등의 혐의로 기소했다. 월스트리트저널(WSJ)은 13일(현지시간) 미국 증권관리위원회(SEC)와 상품선물거래위원회(CFTC)가 투자자 사기 혐의로 뉴욕 남부연방지방법원에 샘 뱅크먼에 대한 민사소송을 제기했다고 밝혔다. 사기와 음모, 돈세탁 등 8개 혐의다.
