Amazon announced this week that it is doubling down on free ad-supported content with the launch of Fire TV Channels, a new free ad-supported (FAST) video experience on its Fire TV devices. While Fire TV has offered FAST content in the past, going forward, Fire TV Channels will be continuously updated throughout the day and will be available on the It will be integrated into multiple areas of the Fire TV interface, including the home screen row, within the "Free" tab on Fire TV, and on category pages dedicated to specific genres.

Amazon said it is shutting down Halo, its membership subscription service that provides health and wellness care and advice remotely. It added that it will stop selling all Halo-based products and lay off parts of the Halo team. For the third year in a row, Amazon topped the networking platform's annual list of top companies, followed by Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase. Generative AI startup founders within the cohort can expect to have access to AI models and tools as well as machine learning stack optimization and custom go-to-market advice. There’s also a Demo Day in San Francisco at the end of the program. Accepted startups will receive up to $300,000 in AWS credits to help build their companies. Applications are open for the next two weeks and 10 startups will be chosen, the company says.

Amazon unveiled on Monday that it will be laying off 9,000 employees, including many from AWS, the world’s largest cloud computing company. “The role reductions in AWS were driven by reprioritization decisions, which required us to reallocate resources,” said an AWS spokesperson to CRN. “In most cases this involved people shifting projects, priorities, or teams, but in some cases we didn’t have the right skill match for these priorities.”
